Jilin Northeast Tigers, the Chinese basketball franchise owned by Cleveland Cavaliers investor Kenny Huang Jianhua, has agreed a US$1.76 million sponsorship deal with the Longrun Tea Group.
The deal, the biggest a Chinese Basketball association club has signed with a single sponsor, is a marker of Huang's ambition. The tycoon is determined to see the CBA emerge as a credible league on the world stage.
Huang has brokered marketing deals with the New York Yankees baseball team and the NBA's Houston Rockets, and is a minority owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers NBA franchise. In December, Tsingtao Brewery Co. signed a multi-year agreement with the Cavaliers to become the exclusive Chinese beer of Quicken Loans Arena.
