Haruhisa Handa has agreed to sponsor the Women's Australian Open golf championship in March, increasing the competition's prize money to US$545,000.
The Japanese businessman, who operates a dozen companies worldwide and is a noted philanthropist, will sponsor the tournament, which expects to attract a number of the world's top ten female golfers.
The competition will now be known as the Handa Women's Australian Open. Handa is the most significant non-corporate contributor to Australian golf.
