Ghana FA signs new deal with Globacom
Length of contract: 5 years | Annualised value: US$3 million | Overall value: US$15 million
Globacom has agreed a five-year deal with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) that will see the Nigerian telecommunications company sponsor the country’s Premier League.
Onetouch, another telecommunications company, withdrew from their sponsorship agreement with the GFA in November, claiming their US$2.5 million per year deal did not represent value for money. The affair represents something of a coup for the GFA, who will receive an extra US$500,000 per year under the new agreement.
The deal, a welcome relief to the nation’s clubs, will see each team’s official coach repainted in Globacom’s brand colours, while the Nigerian company’s logo will be appear on the left shoulder of each player’s match jersey.
Globacom are due to begin telecommunications operations in Ghana next year.
