German broadcaster wins Fifa television rights

German broadcaster DSF will screen the Fifa Confederations Cup 2009, the prelude to the Fifa World Cup 2010.
The competition is played between the continental champions of each Fifa association, as well as hosts South Africa and world champions Italy. Brazil, Spain, the USA, Egypt, Iraq and New Zealand will be the other six teams.
"The Confederations Cup is for us an absolute highlight, which fits ideally into the Bundesliga close season," said DSF chief executive Oliver Reichert. "We look forward to DSF giving the fans their first foretaste of the World Cup 2010."
DSF screens a wide range of soccer tournaments in Germany, including the Bundesliga and the English Premier League.
"DSF is a highly experienced partner," said Fifa's Niclas Ericson. "The Fifa Confederations Cup is more than only a test event. The spectators can count on a live tournament packed with the best teams of all continents."
