GAGOC signs fill-in beverage deal for Asian Games
Length of contract: 2 years | Annualised value: US$3 million | Overall value: US$6m
The Guangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (GAGOC) has signed an agreement with the Guangdong based Jiaduobao Drink & Beverages (JDB) as an official prestige partner of the Asian Games.
Jiaduobao has signed for a specific beverage license, which includes all beverage categories except energy drinks and alcohol-content drinks.
Despite the limited nature and value of the deal, honchos Huo Zhenting, vice president of the Olympic Council of Asia, Xu Ruisheng, vice secretary-general of GAGOC and Yang Guowei, chief executive of Jiaduobao gathered for a signing ceremony in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
JDB is based in Hong Kong and owns the WLK herb-tea. WLK, in its famous red can, is the number one herb tea in China. It also has limited distribution outside the country mainly to Chinese expats.
JDB will focus its whole marketing campaign around the games.
Although the deal is small in relative terms it is still believed to have a value of US$6 million over two years.
