ING, the Dutch financial services group which ended its sponsorship of the Renault Formula One team early after the team was found guilty of ordering Nelson Piquet Jr to deliberately crash his car, has signed as the new major sponsor of the Dutch national soccer side.
The Dutch team, renowned for playing attractive soccer and a high technical ability since reaching two World Cup finals in 1974 and 1978, qualified with a perfect record for next summer's World Cup in South Africa, winning eight qualifying matches from eight.
ING, which has sponsored the team since 1996, will now be the main sponsor of the team until 2018 - a period that takes in three World Cups and two European Championships.
The company is one of five sponsors backing the Belgian and Dutch joint bid to host the 2018 World Cup.
