Flamengo, crowned champions of Brazil's Campeonato soccer league late last year, have secured a Brazilian record shirt sponsorship agreement with Batavo.
The agreement, worth some US$12.5 million, beats the previous shirt sponsorship record, which also involved Batavo and was set just last year, by around US$4.5 million. That deal saw Batavo sponsor a Corinthians side including legendary striker Ronaldo.
Flamengo, which claims to have 35 million supporters, are one of just three clubs to have never been relegated from the Brazilian top-flight. The team have been crowned Brazilian champions on six occasions. 2009's title was decided in the last game of the season, a 2-1 victory over Gremio.
Corinthians, meanwhile, expect to beat the US$12.5 million figure when they announce their own new shirt sponsor.
