Overall value: US$30 million
The Olympic Delivery Authority has chosen First Group to provide bus and coach services for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The Scotland-based company, which provided a similar service for the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, won the contract ahead of 78 other contenders.
In a deal worth some US$30 million, First Group will provide around 500 buses and coaches for shuttle services between venues and park-and-ride sites. Another 90 buses and coaches will connect the Olympic Park with park-and-ride sites on the edge of the London orbital M25 motorway and with Ebbsfleet, from where spectators will be able to take the high-speed Javelin train service to the Park.
First Group will also sub-contract 300 coaches from fleets up and down the country to create a network of express coach services to the Olympic Park and Weymouth and Portland.
The ODA expects that around 10 per cent of spectators will use direct coach services for journeys to the Olympic Park, with a further 11 per cent likely to use park-and-ride services.
