Everton pay tribute to club’s best ever side
Contract summary
Length of contract: 3 yearsAnnualised value: US$3 million
Overall value: US$9 million
English soccer club Everton's new shirt, designed by French manufacturer Le Coq Sportif, will be a tribute to that worn by the team in the mid-1980s.
Le Coq Sportif manufactured Everton's kit from 1983 until 1986, a time-span that saw the club win the English First Division - the forerunner of the Premier League - as well as the FA Cup and the European Cup Winners' Cup with arguably the best team the club has ever fielded. It included such star names as Gary Lineker, Kevin Ratcliffe and Neville Southall
The new kit, which will reportedly be modelled on the shirts worn by those stars, comes as the club is once again on the rise. Victory over Manchester United at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-final means Everton will meet Chelsea in the FA Cup final at the end of the season, while qualification for European soccer through the league has become almost assured in recent years.
The deal between Le Coq Sportif and Everton will be worth nearly US$9 million to the Premier League side over the next three years.
