Cambridge United, the English soccer club one match away from a return to the Football League, has secured a new sponsor.

The club will be sponsored by current partners Kershaw Group for another two years, taking the company up to a decade of involvement with the club. The deal comes just days before the club plays in the Blue Square Premier Play-off Final at Wembley. Winning that match would seal its return to League soccer after a four year absence.

Although Cambridge has spent two seasons in the second tier of English soccer, 2005 saw the team crash out of the three-tier Football League for the first time in 35 years. Current manager Gary Brabin has now led his team close to a return.

"In a week like this when Cambridge United is potentially 90 minutes away from League football, we wanted to show we are fully behind the team," said Kershaw Group's managing director, Mark Finlay. "There seemed no better way of doing that than signing for a new two year deal. Everyone at Kershaw Group wishes Gary and the team the best of luck on Sunday, and many of us will be there to watch."

Gary Atyes, business development manager for Cambridge United, added: "With the current economic climate this shows a tremendous commitment from Kershaw, which is typical of them as a company. The club is delighted they've signed up and we are working hard on a number of other exciting deals, hopefully to be announced in the near future."
