Contract summary

Length of contract: 3 years
Annualised value: US$4.5 million
Overall value: US$13.5 million

The DFB Cup has secured its fourth and final Top-category sponsor, in an agreement negotiated by the Infront Sports & Media agency.

Deutsche Telekom is joining Deutsche Post, Jack Wolfskin and brewery Bitburger as sponsors of the German national cup. It will receive a comprehensive package of advertising rights at all 63 matches in the competition. Every match of the tournament will be shown live on Sky Deutschland and eight matches on ARD or ZDF in parallel.

"As one of the leading German brands, premium football properties are our first choice in sports," said Dr. Henning Stiegenroth, head of sport marketing at Deutsche Telekom. "We were involved with the 2006 Fifa World Cup in Germany and are also involved with FC Bayern Munich and the home matches of the DFB Team. We are looking forward to expand our productive and rewarding relationship with the DFB and its long-term marketing partner Infront. The DFB Cup is a perfect platform to communicate the broad product and service range of Deutsche Telekom to a wide public across the entire country."

Stephan Herth, Infront's executive director of summer sports, said: "The fact that we have secured Deutsche Telekom as the fourth top German brand with international appeal is really good news. This is a winning situation for the DFB and us, because all Top partners of the DFB Cup will also contribute their prestigious names and further raise the premium character of the competition. We are now looking forward to deliver a high quality implementation of the first DFB Cup season with the centralised marketing, in particular to the eventful first match day with a total of 32 matches."

Financial details were not released, but it can be assumed Deutsche Telekom's deal is in line with the other sponsorship arrangements, meaning it will pay around US$13.5 million over the next three years.
