Overall value: US$185 million
The Delhi government will invest an extra US$185 million in the infrastructure for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
The move comes after the city's preparations attracted fierce criticism. Delays in completion of the venues have already forced the relocation of the world badminton championships. Additionally, opposition politicians have complained that the benefits of the government's investment to date have been seen only in the east of the city.
The 2010 competition will be the first time the Commonwealth Games have ever been held in India. The Games, held every four years, feature the best athletes from the 53 states which make up the Commonwealth of Nations, including Canada, Australia and South Africa as well as England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Total investment in the Games to date is reported at US$431.4 million, with half of that coming from government coffers.
