Pilsner Urquell will be the official beer of The Open Golf Championships after brewers SABMiller agreed a five-year deal with Royal & Ancient Golf (R&A).

This year's tournament, at Scotland’s Turnberry course, will be the first tournament to see the beer served within all public and VIP hospitality facilities.

The arrangement will continue at future competitions at St Andrews, Royal St George’s and Royal Lytham and St Annes.

"The R&A is delighted to welcome Pilsner Urquell as the Official Beer of The Open Championship," said the R&A's David Hill.

"I'm sure spectators at this year's Open at Turnberry will be delighted that such an iconic beer is available throughout the Open Championship site."

While the UK beer market has suffered from an overall decline in the last six months, Pilsner Urquell's sales have increased by more than 50 per cent.
