Commerzbank, the German bank, has become the second sponsor of the 2011 Fifa Women's World Cup.

The bank's status as an official partner should mean that the Commerzbank-Arena, the stadium which will host the final, will not have to change its name as it did in the 2006 World Cup. Then the stadium was known as 'FIFA WM Stadion Frankfurt' since Commerzbank was not a Fifa partner.

The stadium hosted an exhibition match between Germany and Brazil, a re-run of the 2007 Women's World Cup final, earlier this week. It drew a crowd of 44,825 spectators.

"We're delighted to assume an active role, helping the Fifa Women's World Cup 2011 to create excitement and energy similar to those unleashed by the 2006 Fifa World Cup," said Commerzbank chairman Martin Blessing. "The World Cup in 2006 emphatically underlined football's key societal role and integrative porwer. Commerzbank feels equally committed to these values."

Steffi Jones, president of the organising committe, said: "I know Commerzbank extremely well from my time with FFC Frankfurt. The bank began supporting us at a time when many people had no interest in women's football whatsoever. It has already made a major contribution to the development and growing popularity of our sport. In terms of the Fifa Women's World Cup 2011, I'm delighted we'll be working together, and I'm sure the partnership will achieve a great deal for the sustainable long-term development of the women's game in Germany."
