Coca-Cola and IPL agree Sprite sponsorship deal
Length of contract: 1 year | Annualised value: US$500,000 | Overall: US$500,000
Lalit Modi, chief executive of the India Premier League, has named Coca-Cola's Sprite brand as the official beverage of the competition.
Jay Mehta, owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders team, who brokered the deal said: "With Sprite now on board as associate sponsor and official pouring partner, I am confident we will together provide more enhanced experiences to our fans and consumers, making the second season of IPL 2009 all the more action-packed and exciting."
Coke beat Pepsi to become the official beverage, after securing all the soft drink advertising slots on the domestic broadcasts for the series.
Pepsi felt unable to do a deal without any slots available.
Last year Coca-Cola's Sprite brand displaced Pepsi-Cola as the second biggest selling soft drink in India.
