The Co-operative, the UK's largest mutual retailer, has signed a deal with Activate Sport to sponsor the youth academies of cricketer Andrew Flintoff, golfer Lee Westwood and rugby league star Paul Sculthorpe.

Activate Sport provides sport, activity and adventure camps for more than 6,000 UK children every year, with the specialist academies of its sport stars the flagship offerings of the brand. The camps offer children the chance to be trained by the best coaches in their sport.

The three academies will be known as The Andrew Flintoff Cricket Academy in partnership with The Co-operative Food; The Lee Westwood Golf Academy in partnership with The Co-operative; and The Paul Sculthorpe Rugby League Camp in partnership with The Co-operative.

"It's tremendous news to have secured this sponsorship for the Academy," said Flintoff. "The Academy needs support and The Co-operative Food partnership will allow us to do additional activity and make more of a difference. It's superb that The Co-operative Food operates in the heart of communities, as that's where we’re working with the Academy so it’s a perfect partnership."

Luke Sutton, director of Activate Sport, said: "The Co-operative is a superb brand for us to have as our title sponsor and we're hugely grateful for their support. They're a very proactive sponsor and we can't wait to start working with them to raise the profile of our activities and continue to promote healthy and fun lifestyles to children."
