China Central Television secures rights to Asian Games

China Central Television (CCTV) has secured a multi-million dollar agreement for the rights to the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games in China.

CCTV's media rights include television, online and mobile coverage of the Games throughout China. The company will send more than 1,000 employees to run its coverage, making up nearly half if the 2,500 broadcast workers who will be employed at the competition.

Guangzhou will be the second city in China to host the Asian Games after Beijing in 1990. 42 events will be contested - the most in the history of the competition, and double the amount in the Olympic Games. 14,000 athletes will compete in 50 stadiums.

China is by far the most successful country in the six-decade history of the competition. The country has won more than 1,000 Asian Games gold medals.
