Celebrity investment in the Miami Dolphins has continued with the news that Marc Anthony has become a minor owner.

Anthony, a Grammy award-winning songwriter and the husband of Jennifer Lopez, joins Gloria and Emilio Estefan, who bought into the NFL franchise earlier this summer.

"I'm a huge sports fan," said Anthony. "These opportunities don't come around too often. It's quite an honor and a privilege to be able to sit here today saying that I'm a part-owner of an NFL team."

Stephen M. Ross, the franchise's majority owner, added: "Marc approached us about joining the team as he expressed his excitement and enthusiasm about the direction of our franchise. We were very receptive to having Marc involved with the  organisation and quickly put something together to maximise the expertise of this dynamic businessman and performer."

Financial details of the deal were not released but, as with the Estefans, given that Ross has invested well over US$1 billion to take control of the franchise, it can be supposed that even a one or two per cent stake would cost as much as US$10 million.

Anthony and Ross shared the stage with NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell and ESPN President, George Bodenheimer in New York to announce that the NFL and ESPN will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a series of special events surrounding the New York Jets versus Miami Dolphins game on Monday October 1.
