Bulgarian broadcaster to show MotoGP
02 March 2009 | By David Cushnan
Length of contract: 1 years | Annualised value: US$250,000 | Overall value: US$250,000
Bulgarian free-to-air broadcaster BNT has agreed a deal to show every round of the MotoGP series in 2009. The deal, agreed with MotoGP’s commercial rights holder Dorna, was announced at the same time as Bulgaria was confirmed as a future MotoGP race venue.
Dorna is believed to have effectively handed the rights to the national broadcaster in order to drum up interest in MotoGP ahead of the sport arriving in the country in 2012. The deal follows Dorna's recently adopted model of prioritising free-to-air, rather than satellite, broadcasters in order to extend the reach of the sport around the world.
