RSC Anderlecht, the Belgian soccer club, has extended its sponsorship agreement with BNP Paribas Fortis.

The bank's branding will appear on the team's shirts for the next year, at the end of which the partnership will have lasted for 29 years. That number is significant for Anderlecht - the club has won 29 Belgian league titles.

"We are a very loyal club and I never doubted that we would indeed come to an agreement," said Anderlecht president Roger Vanden Stock during the press conference. "In June 2010, our partnership will have lasted for no less than 29 years. I hope that the number 29 will not keep on haunting us - for the last two seasons, we have been trying to gain our 30th national championship title. We have not managed to do so yet, but I hope that we will have done so when we start contract negotiations with BNP Paribas for the 30th year."

In addition to their championship wins in Belgium, Anderlecht have won three European competitions - the Uefa Cup in 1983 and the now defunct Cup Winners' Cup in 1976 and 1978. The team's second-place finish in last year's Belgian league secures it entry to next season's Uefa Champions League.
