British tennis player Andy Murray, who returned to action this week after a six-week injury lay-off, has signed a US$24.5 million head-to-toe sponsorship agreement with Adidas.
The world number four, who will wear Fred Perry gear for the last time at the ATP World Tour Finals in London this month, will wear a new Adidas tennis shoe called The Barricade as part of the US$4.9 million annual contract, which will run for the next five years.
"I'm excited to be joining a massive global sports brand with a credible heritage in tennis," said Murray. "Joining a list of stars who have worn the brand, that includes Muhammad Ali and David Beckham, is an honour. I'm in no doubt that this deal will help me both on and off the court."
Adidas VP global sports marketing, Jocelyn Robiot, added: "We are delighted to welcome Andy Murray in to the adidas tennis family. Andy is a young, dynamic player that embodies Adidas' pure performer qualities. He is a very driven and dedicated athlete and we look forward to working with him on developing our Barricade products."
