American Airlines sets eyes on Spain with basketball partnership

American Airlines has signed a partnership with Club Estudiantes, the Spanish basketball club, that sees it become the team's official airline for the 2009/10 season.
The airline, which has partnerships with the Dallas Cowboys, Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks in the United States, also sponsors English Premier League soccer club Fulham.

The decision to back Club Estudiantes comes after American Airlines announced the opening of a new route between Madrid and New York, set to launch in May next year. The airline also operates direct flights to Miami and Dallas/Fort Worth from Madrid and to New York from Barcelona.
