Fulham, the English soccer club which qualified for European competition this season after finishing seventh in the Premier League, has ambitions stretching beyond the continent and across the Atlantic.

The club has appointed Fenway Sports Group, the sister-company of Major League Baseball's Boston Red Sox, to market it in the USA. FSG will also be tasked with selling Fulham's shirt sponsorship from 2011 onwards. The team currently has a shirt sponsorship agreement in place with major Formula One sponsors LG.

"Craven Cottage is 150 years old and Fenway Park is almost 100 years old," Sam Kennedy, chief operating officer of the Boston Red Sox, told the Financial Times newspaper. "Both clubs have strong heritage and strong local ties in the cities in which they play."

Fulham, currently celebrating their 130th anniversary, are owned by Egyptian businessman Mohamed Al-Fayed, who owns the Harrods department store.
