Middlesbrough Football Club has signed a kit deal with Adidas that will see the global brand produce the club's kits for the next four years. The deal will be enough of a financial boost to make a significant difference in the club's summer transfer budget, and improves its chances of keeping hold of its star players such as England winger Stewart Downing. While the club are not releasing financial deals, an industry insider estimated that Adidas would expect to pay around US$3 million per year for a deal with a club of Middlesbrough's size.
A new Adidas training range will be launched in June, before the new kit is revealed in July. Neil Bausor, Middlesbrough's chief operating officer, said: "The club is delighted to be joining forces with a market-leading global sports brand. The club has a history with adidas that dates back to the 1970s. Our new, long-term agreement enables us to work with Adidas again to provide the playing staff and fans alike with product ranges that blend exceptional quality, design and technology. We're confident the club's supporters will be delighted with the move to Adidas and the new range."
Gavin Thomson, Adidas' UK and Ireland sales director said: "Everyone at Adidas is very excited about our new partnership with Middlesbrough Football Club. Middlesbrough is a great club with a proud heritage and a loyal fan base. We look forward to a very rewarding and successful relationship for both parties."
