[LONDON, 8th February 2018] The new Diversity and Inclusion Award was amongst the most entered categories, while Community Programme of the Year also witnessed a significant rise, reflecting the shift in the industry mind-set as businesses define their social purpose.
The new Film Content of the Year Award category received the most entries as the industry also battles to engage their target audiences in the most effective ways.
The very best work, spread across 23 different sports, has now been recognised in this year’s Official Shortlist. View the full list here: www.sportindustry.biz/Shortlist
The winners will be announced at the BT Sport Industry Awards 2018, on 26th April, with categories recognising the very best activations, agencies, brands, campaigns, content, digital communities, events, governing bodies, rights holders, sponsorships, technologies, use of data and more.
In 2018, a number of new categories were introduced, including the Diversity and Inclusion Award, which features The Silk Series, Everton in the Community, The World Para Athletics Championships, Parallel London, SSE Wildcats, and UEFA’s #EqualGame.
In total, 23 different sports are represented - from athletics to UFC - while the NFL can continue celebrating a successful Super Bowl last week, with three entries on the Official Shortlist.
A record number of new entrants have also made the final shortlist of the BT Sport Industry Awards for the first time, including Aldi, Betsafe, Coral, Derbyshire CCC, Fnatic, London 2017, Nature Valley, ICC Women’s World Cup, International Netball Federation, Octopus Energy, Stonewall, Strava and UNILAD.
Nick Keller, chairman, Sport Industry Group - organisers of the BT Sport Industry Awards - commented: “We introduced a number of new categories this year to reflect the work and strategy being undertaken across the sport industry. It is clear that technology is significantly changing our industry but we also are seeing many campaigns that are purpose lead. There is no doubt in these fragmented times that our industry has a greater role to play.”
The BT Sport Industry Awards are the largest commercial sports awards in the world, taking place at Battersea Evolution in London, on Thursday 26th April 2018.
Bringing together sports stars, celebrities, senior decision makers, influencers and global media, the industry’s most anticipated night of the year celebrates the very best work from across the sector. The famous trophies are awarded on-stage in front of a sell-out crowd of 1,700 guests at the star-studded event, held annually in London.
The BT Sport Industry Awards Judging Process is one of the most transparent and stringent procedures of its kind with over 60 hours of intensive judging. Conducted in two stages and all overseen by EY, the process begins with the entries being reviewed and judged by the Steering Committee, featuring figureheads and industry heavyweights, to produce the Official Shortlist. This element of the process spans three weeks and sees more than 80 expert steerers from across the industry and beyond decide the final list.
The BT Sport Industry Awards Judging Panel will then decide the winner of each category, announced at the BT Sport Industry Awards 2018 - the most prestigious commercial sports awards in Europe. To find out more about the extensive judging process, click here.
