The 2019 Awards are open for entries, with new categories and even more ways for the sport industry to get involved.

The changes reflect an ever-stronger emphasis on engagement with the industry, following dialogue with a cross-section of stakeholders over the summer.

Among the improvements, designed to keep pace with a rapidly-changing sector, are two new ‘Of the Year’ categories to sit alongside the hotly-contested Agency of the Year and Brand of the Year in association with Wiggin.

They include a new Event of the Year category, as well as a Sport Organisation of the Year in association with XL Catlin, open to rightsholders including leagues, clubs, teams and governing bodies.

Further industry-driven changes include a series of new, cross-cutting business impact awards:
Fan or Community Engagement Award – aimed at both digital and offline programmes targeting a specific audience
Social or Sustainable Development Award – recognising projects driving environmental, community or broader social benefits through sport; and
Cutting Edge Sport Award – making its return as a platform to recognise innovative thinking and disruptive action across all parts of the industry

In addition, new Active Award and Media Coverage Award categories reflect dynamic growth and diversification in the participation and sport media sectors.
Entries are open until Thursday 29th November 2018, with the Official Shortlist set to be revealed on Friday 15th February 2019.

EY, led by Tom Kingsley, will again oversee the end-to-end integrity of the Judging process. A mix of new and returning judges will include Philip French, director of public affairs and social development at the International Olympic Committee; newly-appointed chief executive of Sport England, Tim Hollingsworth; and Anna Hill, chief marketing officer of The Walt Disney Company, UK & Ireland.

The BT Sport Industry Awards 2019, the star-studded highlight of the industry year, will take place at Battersea Evolution, London, on Thursday April 25th 2019.
A new-look live show format will aim to deliver an unforgettable night of celebration and entertainment, with table prices frozen for the third year in a row.

Next year’s BT Sport Industry Awards will be the 18th in the event’s history.

The awards have evolved into the largest of their kind in the world, sitting at the very heart of the commercial sports industry, with a mission to support the industry’s growth and celebrate its success.

This year will see the introduction of even more ways for the sport industry to engage with the BT Sport Industry Awards – from a new “Industry Selects” shortlisting phase, to a series of “Industry Choice” awards, recognising the people and organisations who have made the biggest impact on the world of sport.

Organiser Sport Industry Group also plans to go further than ever to showcase the success of winners – and particularly to highlight the long list of people behind each award-winning entry.

Sport Industry Group managing director Alex Coulson explained: “We’ve been through a process over the summer to review every aspect of the awards with the aim of making sure they are fit for purpose at a time of rapid industry change.

“The BT Sport Industry Awards are – and have always been – the industry’s awards, and we’ve put a special emphasis this year on looking for new ways to include and recognise an even broader cross-section of all the people and organisations that make up the sector.

“We’re excited by the changes we’re introducing – particularly the “Industry Choice” awards, which will reflect the movement towards peer recognition and will give the industry a collective voice in recognising and celebrating those who make sport the powerful currency that it is.

“We’re also going to make sure we’re involving people at every level of the industry, whose work underpins the dazzling success that we celebrate on the night, and which resonates through the industry across the whole year.”
